The new health bill signed into law March 2010 has an extra credit for adoptive families.
According to the Independent Adoption Center's summary, derived from an analysis by the Joint Council for International Children's Services, the Adoption Tax Credit maximum was increased from $12,150 to $13,170, extended through December 2011. If the credit is not used, because the family has no tax liability, the IRS will refund the amount.
