As the latest numbers indicate, older, educated, unmarried moms are well on the rise, per a new Pew Center report. I've long maintained that about 50,000 women choose this path each year.
I detailed how I derived at that number in my "Choosing Single Motherhood" book.
Soon on this website we're going to start more regular profiles of who we are. Putting a face on the numbers. I've met hundreds of us over the years, largely at my Choice Moms networking events. The women I've met are an amazing group of women. Through the discussion board and individual queries, I know the kinds of issues we struggle with. Every one of us approaches parenting differently of course. Some of us would prefer to have a partner, some not. Many who connect with the community through this website and the boards decide that maybe the path isn't right for them -- and that's as valuable to help them decide as is the information sharing and support that goes on for the women who do opt to take this path.
If you'd like to share your story with the community, now is the time. Send me a few paragraphs that I can use on the website with your first name (pseudonym is fine if you're concerned about being recognized). A digital image would be great.
Your story might include what field you work in, what your passions are, why you find yourself on this journey, if it was your first choice, what stage you are in (thinker, tryer, mom), what your concerns are, what your joys are.
