Research

Since I've been keeping track of website traffic for two years now, I thought it would be interesting to share information about where we tend to live, what information we tend to look for on the website, and what's been happening since I relaunched the website with its new format in February 2010.

California has sent more than 14,000 visitors to the website in the past two years, followed by New York (8K), Minnesota (my home state), Texas (5K), Ontario (4K), Illinois, Massachusetts, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey, Georgia, Maryland, Washington, Ohio, North Carolina (all more than 2K). London, British Columbia and New South Wales are the strongest non-U.S. regions. Other than North America, the highest number of women are coming from the United Kingdom, Australia and Germany, but there are 29 countries so far that have sent at least 100 visitors to the website.

City-wise, in order, we have the most visitors coming from New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto, London, San Francisco, D.C., Brooklyn, Chicago, Seattle, Oakland, Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St Paul), Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Mountain View (Calif.), Denver, Dallas, Vancouver, Philadelphia, Boston, Sydney, Portland (Oregon), San Diego. All with more than 500 visitors.

By far the most women find the website using Google search engines, from U.S. to New Zealand, using keywords like: #1 "Choice Moms" and "choice mom" (a term I created five years ago, so that's heartening), #2 "home insemination" and "at home insemination," #3 "growing up without a father," #4 "frozen sperm life span," #5 "newborn must haves" and all kinds of variations and specialties (2ww, single parent baby book, how to pick a sperm donor, known donor agreement, single woman adoption, etc.).

In all, we've had more than 73,000 visitors in two years! Since launching the new format, nearly 1 out of 2 visitors is returning to the website.

AddysMom, I'm an SMC with twin boys in Michigan. How can we connect? I'd love to get a group going.
