Looking for....

filed under: media, SanFrancisco, known donor

I have three requests in my Inbox, two of them quite unusual. Two of them for media-related projects. One related to a known donor for the San Fran area.

1. This one is the most straightforward. Right now this documentarian is looking for those in the TRYING and WAITING stage. "I'm looking for single, midlife women who are trying and waiting. What I'd like is a group of women in some stage of pre-motherhood so we can track their progress as it unfolds. It could be a woman who has done her home study and all her adoption paperwork and is awaiting the call to go pick up her child, a woman who has undergone a round of fertility treatment and is about to do a pregnancy test, surrogate partners getting their first ultrasound, that kind of thing. I am in Los Angeles, but working with a production company out of New York and not limited at this time to any geographic boundaries. These women would be the primary subjects for the piece. I'm imagining a secondary level of women, already midlife moms, who would speak to the joys and challenges these women are about to face."

Since I know there are MANY of you in this place, I'll remove myself as the middle person and ask you to contact her directly. She's working on a documentary, and understands this space. Rhonda, rmcclainla @ sbcglobal.net.

2. I also have a request from Sirens Media, producing a new season of the TV series titled, "I'm Pregnant And..." which will air on the Discovery Fit & Health network. Here is Cindy's request: "For one of the episodes, we're looking for virgins who are currently 6-8 months pregnant through artificial insemination. [Note from Mikki: 8 months pregnant might be a little tough with their longer-term goals in mind.] We're interested in exploring the challenges and rewards of dealing with the pregnancy and would follow the expectant mother through her journey. We'd film the expectant mother for 5-6 days over a 2-3 month period, and she will be compensated [$1K]. Any expectant mothers who may be interested in participating or having a phone conversation with me can contact me at ckittner @ sirensmedia.com or 202.681.2592.

3. I also have been in contact over a few months with a woman who is doing missionary work in Africa with her husband, who was born there. They will not have children of their own, but he is interested in becoming a distant uncle of sorts as a known donor to someone else. They are looking for someone in the San Francisco area because their missionary work is based from there, so they make occasional trips to the United States. She also notes that she'll be back in the country in April and is happy to have a phone conversation with anyone.

I have agreed to share information about this option for the purposes of helping a Choice Mom learn about it, ONLY IF all safety precautions are taken by the two parties, through The Sperm Bank of California, which will test and quarantine the sperm. I can also recommend a few attorneys to draw up a contract. I have more information about this couple, so if this is of interest to you, let me know.
