Profile

When it was time to start finding coordinators to help Choice Moms do the work we do with the community, the first person I thought of was Kali, who has quietly been offering suggestions and moderation help for several years. Now you, too, can meet her as she steps out of the shadows to help manage our vast East Coast resources.

Here is our Q&A of introduction, as well as a quick overview of what she will help Choice Moms build in the coming months.

1) When did you start on the Choice Mom path? I first decided at the age of 30 that if I got to 35 and wasn't with someone I would pursue choice motherhood. Ironically, a serious relationship ended just before my 35th birthday. My birthday present to myself for my 36th birthday was an appointment with my RE.

2) What were your biggest challenges/hurdles in the Thinking/Trying stage? Getting past that last relationship. We had some back and forth for a while. Literally the day after I ordered my first three vials of sperm, he contacted me and offered to be my donor. It gave me pause, but I realized that I couldn't trust him with my heart, let alone my child's.

3) What have been your greatest challenges and joys since becoming a Mom? Greatest joys: watching the miracles of all the big and little milestones -- first smile, first step, first time she sang a song to me. I still look at her in awe and amazement! Greatest challenges: doing it all alone. I have a great support system (I am truly blessed), but in the day to day there isn't anyone to take over bath time so I can get the dishes done. I also really wish there was someone to share the joyful moments. Sometimes I call my parents several times a day just to tell them something funny my daughter said or did.

4) What one piece of advice would you give women now? I knew only two things going into this -- that it would be harder than I was capable of imagining, and more wonderful than I was capable of imagining -- and I was right on both counts. My only regret is that I waited so long. I want more kids!

5) What kinds of resources are you helping us build for the Choice Mom community? I am working on e-guides for New York City and Washington DC areas. I am also helping to promote all of the amazing resources that are already available on ChoiceMoms.org, and working on expanding our base in Western PA.

Hi, I am in the thinking/grieving stage...and I'm wondering if there are people in the network who might be willing to meet with me to discuss their experience of choice motherhood? I'm the DC area. I do not think I can attend any of the upcoming events outside of DC. thanks, K
