Two women from our 2010 Austin event have emerged to keep the conversations happening and the resources shared in that part of the U.S. Here's the story of one of them.

1) When did you start on the Choice Mom path? I always knew I wanted a family that included children. In my early 30s I told myself I would pursue it myself if I didn’t have a partner in my late 30s. Over the years I researched single mom by Choice, adoption, etc. Well, Mr. Right never appeared and I was telling my ObGyn that I was going to try "someday." She promptly said that if I was going to try, I needed to go NOW. So at 39 I jumped in with both feet. Thankfully, I was holding Levi shortly after I turned 40.

2) What were your biggest challenges/hurdles in the Thinking/Trying stage? My biggest hurdle, was giving up on my family vision. I had always said "I want a family, not just kids." But I never met the right man and the clock was literally ticking. I realized if I wanted a family, I had to redefine my vision of family. In the end, I knew if I didn’t try, I would regret it for the rest of my life.

3) What have been your greatest challenges and joys since becoming a Mom? My greatest challenge is trying to get it all done. I have a wonderful support system, but sometimes would love to be able to afford a lawn care service or a maid so I could have a breather. The house is a mess, and occasionally the yard is a bit sketchy, but I’m not missing any moments with my son, and that is what matters. Watching him grow has changed me, from the inside out, for the better. Also, watching my parents fall in love with my son has been pure joy.

4) What one piece of advice would you give women now? Don’t wait! There will never be a perfect time to have kids. If you are not ready to commit, at least research all you can so when you do decide what you want, you are ready to act.

5) What kinds of resources are you helping us build for the Choice Mom community? I am working on e-guides and networks for Austin, TX. I am hoping to help other Choice Moms in central Texas connect with each other and continue to build support.

I'll approve it for public viewing if that is how it is intended. But you can indicate it's only for our Austin coordinators if you prefer.]
