How do we celebrate Father's Day?
This topic comes up each year, not surprisingly. So here is a gathering spot for our suggestions.
- One woman told me she uses the day to celebrate what a great father her son will be
- I've long wanted to meet with local Choice Moms for an outing that day, but it's never taken off
- Choice Moms now offers a storybook about the "daddy question," written by Choice Moms and illustrated by Choice Kids
Other comments from women received through this website:
- Dannie: "I guess I just am lucky. My parents live down the street and apparently my father 'hung the moon' or something in my daughter's eyes....so we just celebrate my dad."
- Chrissy: "When I was growing up, we didn't really focus on Mother's Day or Father's Day, and I figure the same thing will happen in my family now. So perhaps it will be a non-issue for us. The revolutionary roots of Mother's Day notwithstanding, I've noticed both holidays are mostly just another excuse to spend money on unnecessary stuff. Cynical? Probably. :) Meanwhile, it's a great drying day and the clothesline awaits!"
- Cyndi: "In my family growing up, it was accepted practice to celebrate gradnparents on Mother's Day and Father's Day and I plan to continue that tradition once I am a mom and celebrate Father's Day with my child/ren and my father."
- Soni: "This will be my first Father's Day as a parent, and frankly, I think I deserve all the acclaim that my child's father would get since I'm fulfilling both roles. Granted, they are infants still, but I'm paying the bills, setting up gates and cribs, fixing appliances, and...what else do dads do? Though my question would be, how to celebrate either day on behalf of my family, since I'll be getting myself the cards and flowers too, haha!
