My op-ed about the right to peaceful parenting

filed under: commentary, fatherless

Commentary from Mikki

I was asked by American Fertility Association to write an op-ed about my reaction to the stories, issues and disapproval I've heard about a single parent's ability to be the best they can be for their child.

Here's how I concluded my essay:
"Whether we are one parent or two, deeply in love with a partner or not, put on the parenting journey by accident or plan, heading a family created by donated gametes or placement of our own seed, we are all fully capable of loving our kids as much as anyone else loves theirs.

"And in the end-despite our pre-parenting worries, the scorn of strangers, the natural stress of daily life -- the only thing that really matters is that we know, in the peacefulness of our own soul, that being a parent is what we are meant to be."

The op-ed in full is downloadable here.
